Brittany Hill

Brittany Hill is a 32 year old woman who was born with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele. Her lesion is located in her lower back. It paralyzed her left leg only from the hip down and she has severe Scoliosis and Hydrocephalus.

Growing up with Spina Bifida was definitely different for Brittany. Brittany didn’t go to sleep overs because she never knew if her friends house would be accessible. Brittany didn’t grow up with people in wheelchairs except for one friend she had for a few years. They rode the same wheelchair accessible school bus for years. Her friend has some type muscular atrophy.

Brittany was rather isolated from the other kids at school. A lot of people knew who Brittany was because she was the only kid in regular classes in a wheelchair. A lot of people didn’t know how to approach her. It wasn’t until Brittany was older and out of high school, when she met her husband online. Brittany thinks that when she started working, that was when she actually started having close friends

The advice Brittany would give is the saying her mother would tell her during her up bringing, “Can’t, never could till she tried”. Brittany’s mother always said that to her growing up while teaching her everyday house chores. Brittany can now take care of most of her house chores.
